HYTHE FESTIVAL 2018 running from 7th July to 15th July

The majority of events during the festival are free but there are a few that do have a charge. Please check the detailed event listings for full details. Also check the website www.hythefestival.co.uk
For two Saturdays before the Fes val there will be an information desk at the Undercroft of the Town Hall in the High Street. The Supporters of the Festival will be pleased to assist with any questions. Regular news and updates will be available on the website. There will also be an information point at the Tin Tabernacle during the festival.
There will be FREE extended parking at Sainsbury’s in Military Road. There will also be parking on the South Road sports ground for the Fun on the Green (10.00am - 7.00pm) and for the Canal Bank concert (10.00am - 10.00pm). Check website for details and updates.
The Hythe Festival Committee aims to provide a fully accessible Fes val. If you have any special needs or require further advice or assistance when visiting the Fes val, please contact us via email : eventsecretaryhythefestival18@gmail.com. Hythe is working towards becoming a Dementia Friendly Town, (www.dementiaawarehythe.co.uk)
Hythe and the surrounding area has a wide range of accommodation available. You can nd further information at www.hytheguide.co.uk or www.visitkent.co.uk.
Please use the rubbish bins provided. The Council is not responsible for clearing the litter – volunteers from the Hythe Environmental Community Group will be helping the organisers keep this Festival litter-free. Contact: hytheecg@yahoo.com if you would like to help.
There will be Marshalls provided by Rotary and Raynet, and security provided by The Great War Society at all major events throughout the festival.
Please be aware of the following:

• DOGS MUST BE KEPT ON SHORT LEADS AT ALL EVENTS
• NO BBQs AT EVENT SITES
• WE WORK HARD TO KEEP THE FESTIVAL FREE OR AT NOMINAL COST,
SO VENDORS UNAUTHORISED BY HYTHE FESTIVAL ARE DISCOURAGED.
• PLEASE USE THE RUBBISH BINS PROVIDED
• MARSHALLS WILL BE ON DUTY THROUGHOUT MAIN EVENTS
• AN INFORMATION DESK WILL BE AT ALL MAIN EVENTS FOR:

Come along to the Undercroft in Hythe High Street to find out about the magnificent range of events on offer during the 9 fun packed days of Hythe Festival of Arts and Heritage 2018. You will also be able to collect brochures detailing the events including the first ever Hythe Festival Art Trail, a map of the Garden Safari plus also buy yourself a copy of the Hythe Festival Poster.

The festival opens in traditional fashion with the Grand Parade down Hythe High Street. The parade finishes at Hythe Green where 2 days of entertainment begin. There will be a central stage which will host a range of music, dance, poetry and theatre.

The wealth of attractions surrounding the Green, range from storytelling, to sideshows, to Punch and Judy, all accompanied by the widest variety of culinary and drinking choices. On Saturday, on the side stage there will be a comedic performance of ‘Too Many Cooks’, from ‘Applause Outdoors’.

Sunday sees a fascinating attraction, billed as ‘Playground of Illusions’.

The festival continues with special events at St Leonard’s Church, historical talks and walks, cinema screenings, art and flower shows, music and drama, an art trail (with 40 plus artists and community art groups taking part) and garden safari, to name but a few. The final weekend will stage our eagerly awaited canal bank concert with fireworks.

Hythe Festival Art Trail

Over 40 artists and makers, as well as community art groups, will be opening their studios and work spaces as part of a first time ever Hythe Festival Art Trail in Sandgate, Seabrook, Westenhanger, Hythe and on the Romney Marsh.

Many creative talented people have settled in the Hythe area who are making and showing exciting and varied work from paintings, sculpture and photography to pottery and jewellery, carpentry and framing. As well as contact and venue details in leaflets distributed widely throughout the area and a map of the trail on the web site look out for distinctive signage indicating where studios can be found.

Hythe Festival Photographic Competition

An open photographic competition (limit of 3 entries per person) to capture the spirit of the Hythe Festival within the themes of Colour, Style, Light, Expression and Movement (themes to be discussed and finalised). We are inviting you to ‘get creative’ and think about how to represent the above themes and share your photos of the festival. Remember they will need to catch the eye and have a strong visual impact and evoke the spirit of the festival. Entrants will be asked to give a brief factual description of their photos and why they chose it.
